Average Land Temperature and Magnitude of Earthquakes
The objective was to analyze if the change in average land temperature had an impact on the magnitude of earthquakes during the years 2000 – 2012 for countries Turkey, Iran, Greece and Pakistan. For these four countries, the average land temperature has remained relatively steady during this time period and the average magnitude of earthquakes varied. Therefore, a correlation between average land temperature and magnitude of earthquakes cannot be established.
One interesting finding is that in some cases, the years with the highest average magnitude in earthquakes have the lowest average land temperatures. However, more data would be necessary to establish a direct relationship between low temperature and earthquake magnitude.
